Vande Mataram: Tripura to Celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Bankim Chandra’s Immortal Creation — Tourism Minister

To mark the 150th anniversary of the immortal patriotic song “Vande Mataram” composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, a year-long celebration will be held across Tripura along with the rest of the country. The program will begin on November 7 this year and continue until November 7 next year. The celebration, divided into four phases, will be inaugurated at the State Secretariat premises by Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha.
At a press conference held at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that Vande Mataram is not just a song—it is a powerful hymn to the Motherland that inspired millions of Indians to sacrifice their lives during the freedom struggle. He added that, under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this historic anniversary will be celebrated nationwide.
In Tripura, the first phase of the celebration will be held from November 7 to 14. On the same day at 10 a.m., the state-level inaugural ceremony will be held at the Secretariat in sync with the national inauguration in Delhi led by the Prime Minister. The 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram will also be celebrated in all districts of the state.
The list of dignitaries attending the district-level events includes:
West Tripura: Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee
Sepahijala: Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury
Gomati: Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy
South Tripura: Cooperation Minister Sukla Charan Noatia
Khowai: Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma and Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma
Dhalai: Fisheries Minister Sudhanshu Das
Unakoti: Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy
North Tripura: Industries Minister Santana Chakma
Throughout the year-long celebration, educational institutions, youth groups, and cultural organizations will be actively involved. The programs will include essay and debate competitions, poster exhibitions, patriotic musical performances by the state police band, tree plantation drives, youth marathons, and torch rallies, among other events.
The subsequent phases of the celebration will be held as follows:
Second Phase: January 19–26, 2026
Third Phase: August 7–15, 2026 (in conjunction with the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign)
Final Phase: November 1–7, 2026
Minister Sushanta Chowdhury expressed hope that the people of Tripura will participate in this historic celebration of Vande Mataram’s 150th anniversary with pride and reverence.
Also present at the press conference were Apurba Roy, Secretary in charge of the Finance, Information and Cultural Affairs Department, and Bimbisar Bhattacharjee, Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department.
