Nagaland Statehood Day was celebrated at Lok Bhavan. At today’s event, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu extended his greetings to the guests from Nagaland. In his address, the Governor highlighted the culture, traditions, and heritage of Nagaland.
Speakers at the programme stated that Nagaland was formally inaugurated as the 16th state of the Indian Union on 1 December 1963, and a democratically elected government officially assumed charge in 1964. These points were discussed during the event.
They also noted the significance of celebrating Nagaland Statehood Day on the very day when Raj Bhavan was officially renamed Lok Bhavan. From today, 1 December, Raj Bhavan will be known as Lok Bhavan. Therefore, observing Nagaland Statehood Day on this historic day carries special importance and symbolic value.
Nagaland Statehood Day is celebrated every year on 1 December. It was also observed at Lok Bhavan in Agartala in the presence of the Governor of Tripura.
On 1 December 1963, Nagaland was formally inaugurated as the 16th state of the Indian Union. Before that, it was a part of Assam and was later administered as a Union Territory after merging the Naga Hills and Tuensang Frontier Division. The Nagaland State Act of 1962 granted it full statehood.
This day is significant for recognizing Nagaland’s cultural identity, heritage, and autonomy. It also marks the beginning of the traditional Hornbill Festival. Through the celebration of Nagaland Statehood Day, visiting delegates and guests highlighted various aspects of the state—its language, culture, and overall heritage.
