On 6 December 1956, Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, passed away. Since then, the day of 6 December has been observed every year across the country through various programmes.

On Saturday, a programme was organized in front of Ujjayanta Palace to commemorate the 70th death anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The event was attended by the Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Minister for Scheduled Caste Welfare Sudhanshu Das, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumdar, among others.

Speaking at the event, the Governor said that Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was made the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution not because he belonged to a Scheduled Caste, but because of his extraordinary abilities. His thinking was sharp and far-sighted. He drafted the Constitution so that everyone could be united under one thread. He framed a Constitution in which there would be no differences between rich and poor, high and low, educated and uneducated.

Addressing the gathering, Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhanshu Das said that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was not just a person—he was a rare gem of the nation. He used to say, “Those who forget history can never create history.” Therefore, today is a day to remember history, and the creator of that history is Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. He further said that Dr. Ambedkar’s personality and courage helped the country in drafting the world’s largest democratic constitution.

Later, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Minister Sudhanshu Das, Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumdar, and others present offered floral tributes at the portrait of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.
