Tension spread in Dharmanagar from Wednesday morning over an attempted arson at the District Congress office late at night. Unknown miscreants allegedly tried to set fire to the century-old building between 10:30 and 11:00 PM on Tuesday night. However, quick action by the Dharmanagar Fire Service prevented a major disaster.

On Wednesday morning, Congress workers visiting the office found burnt national flags, broken chairs and tables, and multiple signs of an attempted fire inside the building. They also alleged that several Congress flags placed outside the building had been set on fire.

District Congress President Digbijoy Chakraborty directly accused BJP workers, stating, “This is the result of vile political vendetta. No matter the attempts made, Congress workers will not back down. If necessary, a larger movement will be organized.”

In protest, Congress workers blocked the road in front of the district office on Wednesday afternoon. Subsequently, a protest rally was held across the town. Later, party leaders filed a written complaint at Dharmanagar Police Station, demanding strict legal action against the perpetrators.
