The 133rd birth anniversary of Mao Zedong, the architect of modern China and one of the foremost leaders of the global communist movement, was observed today with due respect by the CPI(M). Mao Zedong was born on this day in 1893.
On the occasion, a brief programme was organized this morning at the state headquarters of the CPI(M). Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mao Zedong. He was accompanied by other senior leaders of the CPI(M) and CPI, along with party workers and supporters.
Speaking on the occasion, the Leader of the Opposition said that Mao Zedong was the founding leader of the Communist Party of China, a Marxist theoretician, and the architect of modern China. Under his leadership, the People’s Republic of China was established in 1949, and he led the country until his death in 1976.
Mao Zedong is particularly remembered in political history for leading a peasant-based communist revolution. Among the various policies introduced by him, the Cultural Revolution marked a historic phase of social transformation, which brought profound changes to China’s political, economic, and social structure. Leftist leaders believe that, as a continuation of these transformations, China has emerged today as one of the world’s major global powers.
