Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today held a bilateral meeting in New Delhi with Nepal’s Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Anil Kumar Sinha.

During the meeting, both countries signed a Letter of Exchange related to the amendment of the India–Nepal Transit Treaty Protocol, officially approving direct container and bulk cargo movement through the Jogbani–Biratnagar rail link.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, this initiative will facilitate smoother cargo transportation directly from Kolkata and Visakhapatnam ports to Nepal’s customs yards.

The Ministry further noted that the move will strengthen multimodal trade connectivity between India and Nepal and also enhance Nepal’s trade links with third countries.

The meeting also included detailed discussions on ongoing border connectivity and trade facilitation projects, such as Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) and other infrastructure development initiatives.
