Demanding the repeal of the Labour Codes and an increase in budget allocations for various project-based jobs, the CITU-affiliated ASHA Workers’ Union, Mid-Day Meal Workers’ Union, and Anganwadi Workers and Helpers’ Union held a protest in front of the Labour Building on Monday. The demonstration was led by women’s leader Panchali Bhattacharya.
She stated that since 2014, under the current central government, workers engaged in various schemes have been facing continuous deprivation, and their financial allocations have been steadily reduced. In the last financial year, the central government cut ₹500 crore from the budget allocation meant for Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers. With the Union Budget approaching, CITU is organizing nationwide protests demanding that the budget for scheme workers not be reduced any further this year.
This protest in front of the Labour Building was part of that nationwide movement, Panchali Bhattacharya added.
