Team India's two legendary batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, created history on Saturday night (October 25) at the Sydney Cricket Ground. In the third and final ODI against Australia, they formed a unique partnership that saved India from the embarrassment of losing the series 3-0. Rohit Sharma played a stormy batting innings of 121 not out, which is his 50th century in international cricket. On the other hand, Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 74 runs, and with this, he surpassed Kumar Sangakkara to become the second highest run-scorer in ODI cricket. This was the first century partnership between the two since January 2020 — a 132-run partnership that saw India comfortably win by 9 wickets. Earlier, Harshit Rana bowled out Australia for just 237 runs with excellent bowling (4 wickets for 39 runs). Washington Sundar (2-44) and Axar Patel also played important roles. The only bright spot for Australia was Matt Renshaw, who scored his first ODI half-century (56). Rohit and Gill batted confidently from the start in the chase. After Gill was dismissed, Kohli came in and batted with the captain in a controlled manner from the start. Gradually, both of them found their rhythm, and India finally reached the target in 38.3 overs. With this win, India prevented a series whitewash of Australia, and Rohit-Kohli once again proved why they are one of the best pairings in modern cricket.
