On January 8, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the High Court, M. S. Ramachandra Rao, along with Justice Biswajit Palit, delivered a historic verdict in favour of teachers and employees. As a result of this judgment, the system of recruitment on a fixed pay scale will no longer continue in Tripura. The High Court ruled that the five-year fixed pay system is unconstitutional.
Various political parties have already reacted to this verdict. On Thursday, the Pradesh Congress also expressed its reaction on the issue. At a press conference held at the Congress Bhavan, Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty said that the fixed pay recruitment system was introduced in the state during the tenure of the former Fourth Left Front government. Later, the BJP had promised that if it came to power, it would abolish this system, but that promise was not fulfilled.
He said that the High Court has now delivered its verdict on the matter, declaring the fixed pay system unconstitutional. Prabir Chakraborty described the judgment as a landmark verdict. At the press conference, he stated that there should be no delay or excuse in implementing the High Court’s verdict and that the state government must implement it immediately.
The Pradesh Congress spokesperson further said that the BJP had promised in its vision document that if it came to power, there would be no irregularities and that the Seventh Pay Commission would be implemented in the state. However, in reality, nothing has been done.
