Thursday, 27 November. The TIPRA Motha party has called for a large public gathering at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in the capital. The title of this gathering has been set as ‘Thansa Rally’, meaning Unity Rally. According to the Motha leadership, this rally has no political connection. They claim that the rally will pave a new path for preserving the culture, unity, and dignity of the indigenous communities.

Preparations have already begun at Swami Vivekananda Maidan for the rally. Motha leaders have been closely monitoring the arrangements. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, along with several political figures from the Northeast, is expected to be present at the gathering.

To review the preparations, West District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak visited Swami Vivekananda Maidan on Wednesday afternoon. Accompanying him were West District Additional SP Dhruva Nath and other officials. They inspected the preparatory arrangements for the rally. Police officials also spoke with the Motha leaders present at the venue. They examined all necessary aspects, including the location of the stage and seating arrangements for various leaders. However, the SP and Additional SP did not wish to speak to the media regarding the visit.

Meanwhile, to make the 27 November gathering a historic one, Motha workers and supporters have intensified campaigning across various parts of the state. Over the past few days, bike rallies have been organized in support of the upcoming public meeting.

It is worth mentioning that the rally was initially scheduled to be held on 7 November at the call of TIPRA Motha’s youth organization, the Youth TIPRA Federation (YTF/OITF). However, at that time, an International Expo was underway at a section of Swami Vivekananda Maidan, due to which the police administration cancelled the proposed rally. The matter created a stir in political circles.

According to various sources, Thursday’s rally may see a turnout of 20,000 to 30,000 people.
