The general election of the TTAADC is approaching. With this election in mind, all political parties in the state have begun their preparations. However, the preparations of the ruling BJP and TIPRA Motha are particularly noticeable. Centered on capturing control of the ADC, these two allies within the government have virtually come face to face in open confrontation.
While one side is organizing public joining programmes, TIPRA Motha is carrying out its induction process in a more low-key manner. On Thursday, TIPRA Motha organized a press conference. At the event, 72 BJP workers and supporters from the Mirza, Kathalia, and Rajapur ADC areas joined TIPRA Motha. Minister Brijesh Ketu Debbarma and party spokesperson Rajeshwar Debbarma welcomed the new entrants.
Addressing the press conference, TIPRA Motha General Secretary and Minister of State Brijesh Ketu Debbarma said that the party is not at all worried about the upcoming ADC elections. “Motha is concerned about protecting the next generation. More important than elections for us are our rights, our land, our community, and our script,” he said. He added that TIPRA Motha does not engage in politics and campaigning only for elections. “We are doing politics for our own protection,” he stated.
Responding to a question, Minister Debbarma said that TIPRA Motha is not satisfied with the functioning of the state government. He added that not only TIPRA Motha, but many BJP leaders are also unhappy with the government’s performance. In reply to another question, he said that despite being dissatisfied with the government’s work, TIPRA Motha continues to remain in the government. One of the main reasons, he explained, is the assurance given by the Union Home Minister, who has promised to restore their rights. He said this assurance was given during discussions on the recently held tripartite agreement in Delhi, and it is based on this assurance that they are waiting.
At the press conference, TIPRA Motha spokesperson and former MLA Rajeshwar Debbarma said that the Chief Minister’s recent remarks on the Roman script were extremely unfortunate and unbecoming of a Chief Minister. He stated that the demand for the Roman script cannot be linked to any conspiracy by foreign forces.
The TIPRA Motha leaders also expressed deep concern over the recent Hejamara incident. They clearly stated at the press conference that TIPRA Motha does not believe in violence. The leaders said, “We are fighting to protect our future generations, and this struggle will continue in the days ahead.”
