A press conference was held on Sunday in the presence of former Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma. From the conference, he gave a clear message that Tipra Motha will contest the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections independently, on its own strength.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s claim of winning 28 seats in the ADC elections, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma made sharp remarks. He said, “If the BJP fields candidates in all 28 seats, then Tipra Motha will also contest all 28 seats independently. Then it will be seen whether they can actually win 28 seats, or only 2.” He added that when the time comes, the people of the state will deliver their verdict.
Speaking on the issue of violence, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said that neither the Chief Minister nor he wants violence in the state. However, he stressed that the Chief Minister should first control the leaders and ministers of his own party. He alleged that the language and comments of some BJP leaders and ministers are not only disrespectful toward alliance partners but also toward opposition parties, and are completely unacceptable.
He also cornered the state government over the Tiprasa Accord. He alleged that although the Government of India supports the Tiprasa Accord, a section of the state government leadership does not want the agreement to succeed. According to him, this duplicity has become a major obstacle to the implementation of the accord.
At the same time, referring to the current situation in Bangladesh, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said that despite being a regional party, Tipra Motha has taken to the streets to protest against the persecution of minority Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians in Bangladesh.
He also raised questions regarding sports. Pradyot stated that while Bangladeshi cricketers are being given opportunities, talented cricketers from the North-East are not getting their due. He questioned, “When Bangladeshi cricketers are bought for crores of rupees in the IPL, why was the talented state cricketer Manishankar Murasing not picked? Who will answer this?”
Political observers believe that this press conference has once again heated up state politics ahead of the ADC elections.
