Saturday marked the 63rd All India Civil Defence and Home Guards Foundation Day. On this occasion, state governments across the country organized various programmes. In Tripura, the main event was held on Saturday at the Police Ground in AD Nagar, Agartala, also known as the Manoranjan Debbarma Memorial Police Parade Ground.
The event was attended by Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha, Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, Director General of Police, and other dignitaries. A Guard of Honour was presented to the Chief Minister, and he, along with others, paid tribute to the martyrs of the state police.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that during Operation Sindur, volunteers played a significant role under war-like conditions. They extended a helping hand to the administration. Volunteers are being recognized at the district, state, and national levels for their commendable work in protecting life and property, and he congratulated the recognized volunteers.
He further stated that training is currently being provided to enhance the skills and preparedness of volunteers, with budgetary allocation in place for this purpose. The government is committed to supporting Civil Defence and Disaster Mitra volunteers to transform the state into a disaster-resilient region.
The Chief Minister also informed that since July 2021, Civil Defence has been expanded in every district of the state. Currently, there are 5,000 trained Civil Defence volunteers in Tripura, and they continue to receive regular training. He added that a target has been set to create Civil Defence volunteers equal to one percent of the state’s population. He also mentioned that the central government has launched a project to train volunteers for Civil Defence.
On this occasion, several Civil Defence and Disaster Mitra volunteers were awarded for their proficiency in various tasks. The awards were presented to the recipients by the Chief Minister and other guests.
